What does Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery mean?
Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (CMF) involves the correction of congenital and acquired conditions of the head and face.
Cranio-maxillofacial trauma encompasses any injury to the soft tissues of the face, neck, and scalp, as well as to the hard tissues of the facial skeleton including the teeth, facial bones, or the cranium.
Craniofacial surgery may also be used to treat trauma-related injuries of the face or skull, or post-tumor reconstruction. In all cases, the goal is to restore normal appearance and function to the face of the child or adult. The craniofacial program specialists are also trained to keep an eye out for related issues.
