Intramedullary nailing (IMN) and plate fixation are both effective treatments for bone fractures, but they can have different outcomes depending on the type of fracture and the technique used.
Compared with angled locking plates, intramedullary nails have higher mechanical strength. This higher strength can reduce the dissection of soft tissue at the fracture site, preserve the blood supply to the fracture, and facilitate fracture healing.
IMN is often the preferred treatment for these fractures, but plate fixation can be an effective alternative if the fragment is too distal for IMN.
